Satisfying results for Connexion Fibre Picanoc
Following its annual assembly, held October 15, 2010, Connexion Fibre Picanoc wishes to share with you the results and progress in its
proposed deployment of high-speed Internet for the territories of MRC de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau and MRC Pontiac.
The primary mission of the corporation is to operate an optical link on its territory and to ensure, for its members, its sustainability,
upkeep, maintenance and repair. Connexion Fibre Picanoc through its partnership in Réseau Picanoc.Net has established a WIMAX signal transmission
network to supply high-speed Internet for the population of the MRC of Pontiac and Vallée-de-la-Gatineau territories.
To date, Phases I, II and III of the project have allowed the deployment of some sixty towers, serving around
1 300 customers on the two MRC territories. In order to finalize Phase III, a total of 8 towers are still to be
mounted and adjusted. With the financing from Industry Canada and the injection of funding from the two
MRC territories, Phase IV will allow the deployment of about 30 additional towers, with the partnership of
Réseau Picanoc.net, to provide high-speed wireless Internet technology and IP telephony (Internet Protocol).
After 30 months of operation, on a 5-year project, we have completed more than 50%. After analyzing these
results, the administrators of Connexion Fibre Picanoc have expressed general satisfaction regarding this
project. By maintaining an objective of reaching approximately 80 % of the population, the corporation sees,
as a good thing, the pursuit of its activities, through collaboration in a partnership with, Xittel inc. and Réseau
Picanoc.net, a joint venture created to commercialize the bandwidth and provide high-speed Internet and IP
telephony to an ever-increasing clientele established in the Pontiac and Vallée-de-la-Gatineau territories.
